With the recent lockdowns shaping the way we live in our homes (see here), more investors are looking to buy a plot of land and build their dream home tailored to their own requirements.

According to an analysis by the Portuguese property portal Imovirtual, the demand for land has more than doubled in the past two years. The trend stems from the pandemic, says the portal, which has seen investors look to build a home according to their new needs – more outdoor space, different living spaces and closer to nature, away from the hustle and bustle.

But is it worth it?

Although demand for land has risen in the past year, buying land and building a house from the ground up can be demanding. In Portugal, there are a number of bureaucracies that may discourage buyers.
