The Algarve has this week been crowned with the title of ‘Best European Region in Tourism and Gastronomy 2018’, awarded by the European Council of Food and Wine Confraternities (CEUCO) in the 13th edition of the AURUM Awards.

The newly-appointed British Ambassador to Portugal Chris Sainty presented his credentials to the Portuguese President little more than a fortnight ago, but has already been extremely active in making contacts both with Portuguese government officials and members of the British community.

Almost 800 million euros in revenue came into the Algarve during the first eight months of the year, putting the region on track to having the best year ever since records began.

The Algarve Tourism Association (RTA) is looking to promote the Algarve as a gastro tourism destination to further broaden the appeal of the region throughout the year and to a new niche of tourists who may have previously not considered a break in the Algarve.

Irish budget airline Ryanair announced on Tuesday that it will be investing around €100 million to create 12 new routes in Portugal for the summer of 2019, from all of its national bases.
