Agricultural production has not been this good for years in Portugal. From wine to dried fruits, from apples to peaches and tomatoes, the forecast for agriculture points for an increased production this year. Regarding corn, the last five-year break in production might end as well in 2019.

“On the 31st of July, the agricultural forecast was pointing to an increase in productivity relative to the past year in dried fruits, wine, apple, peach, flowers, according to the National Institute of Statistic (INE).

Regarding almond, the beginning of new plantations also contributed to an increase in its production, which might keep happening over the next years. The wine production is also estimated to grow by 10% relative to 2018, making national products even more competitive in the global market.

This exceptional year has been gifted by the favourable meteorological conditions and July was the driest month of 2019. Such conditions contributed to the performance of agricultural works, both manual and mechanised, which has favoured the development of the various crops.
