Two new Michelin Star restaurants in Portugal for 2018! And they’ve both in the Algarve!
That’s now 28 stars from north to south and across to Madeira. Gusto by Heinz Beck at Conrad Algarve in Almancil earns a star. The executive chef is Italian Daniele Pirillo under the direction of German Heinz Beck, who has three Michelin stars of his own at La Pergola in the Waldorf Astoria Cavalieri in Rome. Vista Restaurant at the boutique Bela Vista Hotel & Spa in Portimão, also receives a star. For over a year, young executive chef João Oliveira had been considered a front-runner for the designation. This year, Michelin stood up and took notice.
Two star designation remain the same for 2018, with Ricardo Costa at The Yeatman in Porto, José Avillez of Belcanto in Lisbon, Hans Neuner of Ocean and Dieter Koschina of Vila Joya in the Algarve, and Benoit Sinthon at Il Gallo d’Oro in Funhcal.
Retaining their one star for another year are: Pedro Lemos at Pedro Lemos, Rui Paula at Casa de Chá da Boa Nova and Vitor Matos at Antiqvvm in Porto; Tiago Bonito at Casa da Calçada in Amarante, Joachim Koerper at Eleven, João Rodrigues at Feitoria, Henrique Sá Pessoa at Alma and Alexandre Silva at Loco in Lisbon; Miguel Rocha Vieira at Forteleza do Guincho in Cascais, Sergi Arola at LAB in Sintra, Miguel Laffan for L’And in Alentejo, Rui Silvestre at Bon Bon, Willie Wurger at Willies, Henrique Leis at Henrique Leis, and Leonel Pereira at São Gabriel, all in the Algarve.
