According to a new survey from TravelZoo, 30 percent of British travellers consider their safety and security while on holiday to be the most important factor when picking their destination of choice this year.

When it comes to picking a destination for a holiday it appears that this year tourists from the UK are looking for more than just sun, sea and sandy beaches and are instead looking to safe destinations such as the Algarve.

According to a new survey from TravelZoo, 30 percent of British travellers consider their safety and security while on holiday to be the most important factor when picking their destination of choice this year.

In previous years, price had been one of the most important factors for many Britons choosing to travel abroad for a holiday, and with the Post Office rating the Algarve as the cheapest destination in the world currently for a holiday this has already made the region a top spot for many.

Now however, with many people aware about unrest and political problems in certain parts of the world, they are also looking for destinations that can be considered to be safe for themselves and their families with the Algarve coming out as one of the safest places to travel to this year.

According to TravelZoo, bookings to Spain, Greece and Spain have seen a huge spike in the January rush to book a break for this summer leading to a number of travel agents predicting a sell out to these destinations for the summer within a matter of weeks.

Louise Hodges from TravelZoo said: "It is clear that events of terrorism last summer have had a significant impact on consumer travel habits; safety and security is now paramount for British people when making choices about travel destinations in 2016.

She added: "This is something we haven’t seen before on this scale, and in the short to medium term we are seeing people preferring to book holidays in perceived ‘safe destinations"

Typical European holiday destinations including Portugal, Spain, France, Italy and Belgium have been advised as completely safe for all travel which has led to the surge in the number of bookings for summer holidays in these countries over the past few weeks.

The Algarve continues to be a hugely popular destination for British and other European tourists with increasing numbers also coming to the region from other parts of the world also.

To ensure that you are able to enjoy your holiday in the Algarve, book your holiday accommodation as soon as possible and make the most of the large range of choices available today.
